Traditional Gundog dummies: Are they the best for gundog training?

With much popularity of gundog sports, the demand for gun dog training supplies has increased. More sophisticated and durable gundog training equipment has reached the market and gundog trainers experience less stress now in training their students thanks to these modern equipment.

Even though advancement is visible, most of the gundog dummies are traditional. Selecting a gundog dummy considering its shape, colour and weight can help find a good choice. Most traditional dummies are made of canvas and they are usually green. Many gundog dummies are filled with sand and toggles are at their ends to throw them.

Trainers usually select small gundog dummies because they are easy to carry. More often they use dummies weighing 1lb. One important factor to be considered when selecting gundog dummies is that dogs face difficulties to see some colours, which are clearly visible to human eyes. For example dogs cannot see redclearly. But they can see more grey, green and purple than red. Therefore, gundog trainers select light coloursmore often.

Most gundog lovers do not use Slip Leads around their pets’ necks. The gundogs more often feel uncomfortable when slip leads are around their neck. The best way is to let a gundog walk with a leash. After sometime, they will get used to a leash. Then they can be walked with slip leads or harnesses around their necks. Anyway, a gundog should be familiar with slip leads around their necks or they may even get hurt withslip leads.
